Teachers of Tomorrow, as an organization, was inspired by the legacy of SHARON CHRISTA MCAULIFFE. May all who decide to become involved with TEACHERS OF TOMORROW assure that they help the best “Touch The Future.” Teachers of Tomorrow was started in 1986 by Jowel C. Laguerre, U.S. Department of Education Christa McAuliffe Fellow.

TEACHERS OF TOMORROW MISSION STATEMENT

Teachers of Tomorrow (TOT) has been created in response to the declining number of teachers, especially minority teachers; and particularly teachers in the areas of mathematics, science, foreign language and special education. The program is designed to:

  • recruit students into the teaching profession.
  • help students, in agreement with their parents, take more responsibility for their education.
  • provide hands-on experience to prospective teachers.
  • help students reach college.

The TOT program is dedicated to the future of the teaching profession and actively promotes a positive image of the teaching profession. Teachers of Tomorrow is a cooperative venture of the public school districts of Pulaski County and four public institutions for higher learning: University of Central Arkansas, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, University of Arkansas at Little Rock and Henderson State University.

A portion of the funding for the TOT 2002 project is provided by the U.S. Department of Education Teacher Quality Enhancement Grant ($47,400 or approximately 40% of total project cost).
